Rose Room Class

For students 3 to 5 years old (3 years old by September 1st, 2020 – exceptions at teacher discretion) Classes are limited to no more than 12 children per weekday and are supervised by Teacher Julie and one to two parent helpers. We strive to keep a 4:1 ratio.

Class is available Monday – Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Two days per week minimum is required for the Mixed Age class, our unique schedule allows you to select any combination of days when you register, pending availability.

Juniper Room Two’s Class

For students 2 to 3 years old (2 years old by September 1st, 2020 – exceptions at teacher discretion). Class will meet on Tuesday and Thursday with an option to add Monday as a third day* from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Class size will be limited to 9 students and will be supervised by Teacher Geneva and one to two parent helpers. We strive to keep a 3:1 ratio.

*If enrollment is low, the Monday Juniper class may be cancelled and merged with the
Tuesday/Thursday class.

Changes for 2020

To meet the needs of our growing school, starting next year Ashcreek Playschool may  offer on site child care for parents to use during their parent teaching days, if there is enough interest. Ashcreek Playschool allows parents to bring young infants in child carriers with them to parent teach. However, having toddlers join us in the classroom is challenging both for the students and the parent teachers. Sibling care would be offered at an additional cost or with more parent teaching scheduled days if we depend on the families who use this service to staff the sibling care room.  Our registration form includes questions about your potential use of the is service, you can also email us at ashcreekplayschool@gmail.com to provide input. We cannot yet guarantee that child care will be available during parent teaching shifts next year.

Ashcreek summer camps ended last week with fun camping themed play and activities. Our new teacher Julie, and the giant vegetables she brought in from her garden to disect (and eat!), got smiles and approval from the kids.

Ashcreek Playschool is excited to welcome Julie Laurin to our staff! She will be taking on role of teacher for our Mixed Age class, as well as helping manage our school as the Director of our program.

Meet Julie:

I have spend the last six years as a Preschool Teacher for THPRD. I love going to concerts and spending time outdoors with my family of five. I have three teenagers at home. They are 19, 17 and 13. We share the house with a cat named Rocket and a dog named Barley. I love watching preschoolers learn by leaps and bounds.

My favorite quote is “Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.” – Benjamin Franklin

Julie will be teaching at the remaining Ashcreek summer camp sesisons in August to get to know some of our students and parents and get familiar with the space before the school year begins.

This year our annual fundraising auction is coming up on May 4th. It will be held at Pacific Growlery in Tigard and is a 21+ event.

Tickets are $25 each (or 4 for $75!)  and include dinner and two drinks. We encourage our members to bring friends or relatives to fill our venue!

It will be a fun night and there is a HUGE selection of awesome items our auction committee has collected. We have over $10,000 worth of items in our catalog and there will be a wide variety of things to purchase. And aside from the fundraising aspect, it will be a fun night out!

At Ashcreek Playschool we wholeheartedly believe in play based education for young children. Our preschool classes are structured so that most of the time children are here they can choose their activities and learn through child led play.

However, we do want to help make sure our students are ready for a successful transition into Kindergarten. We are doing that by working on some of the skills they will need to build on in elementary school and preparing them for the expectations of a more structured environment and more teacher led learning.

We have started a Kindergarten Prep hour for our Kindergarten bound students immediately after the morning preschool class that meets twice a week. The group is small, and this means they are able to get lots of one on one attention from Teacher Erika to work on the skills each child most needs to improve on. This means a student who struggles to use scissors is spending a lot of time working on cutting straight lines, someone may be practicing writing their name legibly and someone else may be working on the first group of sight words taught in the Beaverton School District Curriculum. They are all taking a step towards the longer day and academic focus they will have next year.

This doesn’t mean throwing them into the academics of elementary school a year early, though. Mixed in with this targeted skill building is time for song and dance and play, and building their self control and confidence so they are ready to be capable and independent good citizens at their “big kid schools” next year.

The group currently meets on Tuesday and Thursday. We plan to offer the add-on class again next year, but the days and time will be determined based on our enrollment for 2019. This will be decided with the input of registered families over the summer.

Ashcreek Playschool has scheduled our annual Open House for Saturday February 16th from 10:00 am – 12:00.

We will be providing information about the 2019-2020 school year and registration opens to the public at our Open House.

Children are of course welcome to come meet the teachers and explore our classrooms!
